The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Sound Family Upbringing in the Age of Technology and Artificial Intelligence.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Noor Aref, Head of the Planning Unit at the Center, and attended by a number of faculty members and staff.
The workshop aimed to equip families with effective methods for raising children in the age of technology and artificial intelligence, while promoting a balance between technology use and the development of positive values and behaviors.
Aref emphasized that families must understand the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on children and provide them with modern and balanced parenting strategies to foster positive values and behaviors, ensuring the upbringing of conscious and responsible children in the digital age.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations focusing on the importance of setting specific times for technology use to avoid overuse and maintain family communication. It also recommended encouraging shared family activities to strengthen bonds and values among family members, guiding children towards the safe and responsible use of technology, teaching them digital safety skills, and developing critical thinking and creativity skills to address misinformation and digital challenges. This should be done while balancing digital learning with real-world activities to ensure children’s holistic development.
