The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held its first periodic meeting of 2026 with the Industrial Advisory Council. The meeting was chaired by the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, and attended by the Director General of the Department of Local and Regional Development at the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Mohammed Mohsen Al-Sayed; the Director of the Urban Planning Department at the Baghdad Municipality’s Design Department, Dr. Sumaya Layj Jassim; a representative from the Design Department at the Ministry of Housing and Construction; and several faculty members from the Center.
The meeting’s agenda included discussions on the importance and need of the public and private sectors for urban and regional planning specializations, as well as the need to admit undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The committee members reviewed the updated curricula and course syllabi prepared by the Center’s faculty as part of a previous plan to modernize and develop the curriculum. This plan also included the integration of artificial intelligence into the Center’s course syllabi.
Furthermore, it was agreed to develop a plan for workshops and training courses in coordination and cooperation with external committee members, and to implement it according to specific timeframes. It is worth mentioning that the Dean of the Center, Dr. Alwan, welcomed the possibility of holding a joint scientific conference in the near future with the Baghdad Municipality and other state institutions that are similar to the Center’s specialization.
