The Center of Urban and Regional Planning is a prestigious scientific institution that was the only one of its kind in Iraq and the surrounding region when it was established in 1971. It is a multidisciplinary institute that accepts students from diverse academic backgrounds, ranging from engineering to the humanities. This diversity grants the center a vital role today in shaping an inclusive vision based on the interplay of multiple sciences. Following its founding, several other Arab institutions were established that adopted the same scientific approach as our center.
Throughout its 49-year history, the center has adapted to technical and technological advancements in its field. The master’s degree program was initiated in 1973, followed by the launch of the region’s first doctoral program in urban and regional planning in 1994, and a higher diploma program in 2005.
The center continuously produces significant scientific research and hosts numerous national and international conferences and symposiums.
