The Urban and Regional Planning Center for post Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the study of the Higher Diploma (Using Spatial Techniques in Determining Urban Expansion Trends in the City of Essaouira) by researcher Zainab Basil Falih, and under the supervision of the teacher, Dr. Ihsan Sabah Hadi.
The study aimed to determine the axes of the expansion of the city of Elssaouira by means of geographic information systems through spatial analysis, based on the descriptive analysis of the variables that enter into determining the paths of expansion, and the researcher relied in her study the temporal and spatial limits, as well as the objective limits.
The study developed a set of recommendations focused on the need to adopt high-resolution satellite images to benefit from them in future research, in addition to building an expanded and unified database within all sectors of the state and linked to each other to ensure the exchange of information, while the researcher addressed in her recommendations the importance of urban expansion away from agricultural land and building housing complexes in Elssaouira in order to attract the population to the right housing direction and not to spread in the city wrongly.
