Moment of Silence on the Anniversary of the Genocide of the Yazidis and Other Ethnic Groups
Today, Sunday, August 3, 2025, the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a moment of silence to commemorate the anniversary of the genocide of the Yazidis and other ethnic groups, a painful chapter in Iraq’s history. The event included a minute of silence and a vehicle stoppage in memory of Iraq’s martyrs and victims of the genocide.
Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, Dean of the Center, emphasized that this anniversary embodies a message of loyalty to all victims and a renewal of the pledge to work for a safe and diverse Iraq that respects all its components. He called for the promotion of peaceful coexistence and the consolidation of the values of tolerance and social justice. The moment concluded with prayers for mercy for the martyrs and patience for their families, emphasizing that their sacrifices will live on in the nation’s memory.
