The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (The impact of the spatial signature of private universities on neighboring areas – a comparative study of some private universities in the city of Baghdad) by the student Zainab Ghassan Hussein, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Hashim Sahen. The aim of the thesis is to study the impact of establishing private universities on neighboring areas in order to help decision-makers anticipate these impacts and take them into account when preparing detailed plans for cities, after the capital Baghdad witnessed the construction of many private universities, especially in the study area (Karrada – Al-Wahda neighborhood – the four streets in Yarmouk), and the thesis examined the impact of this growth of private universities on the economic, social, urban and environmental planning aspects of the city, which created a knowledge gap about the impact of private universities on neighboring areas and their future repercussions on them.

The thesis reached the extent of the impact of establishing modern private universities in the city of Baghdad on the urban uses adjacent to them, and recommended the necessity of reconsidering the spatial signature of these private universities in the future according to the standards and actual need in order to achieve balance in the urban environment system.
