The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized a planting and afforestation campaign based on the directives of the Prime Minister regarding planting trees and plants in every formation.
This campaign comes within the national afforestation plan launched by Prime Minister Engineer Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani at Basra International Climate Conference, which includes planting five million trees and palm trees in order to preserve the environment and activate the concepts of sustainability.
The Center’s campaign included planting a number of citrus and evergreen trees, as well as planting seasonal flowers with the participation of the Center’s professors and employees, as well as postgraduate students.
In the same context, a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, accompanied by the Horticulture Unit at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, inspected the afforestation campaign organized by the Center, praising the preparations and the organization mechanism for which the Center is known.
It is noteworthy that the university presidency organized a central afforestation campaign within the same initiative, and the center was represented in the campaign by Chief Agricultural Engineer Sondos Iyad Aziz, while the Urban and Regional Planning Center held, from the first working hours, an awareness workshop on the importance of afforestation for the university community, delivered by Professor Dr. Nada Khalifa on the center’s members and students to encourage spreading the culture of the green environment, starting from home, street, and workplace.
