The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a workshop titled “Strategic Plan 2025–2030 and Feasibility of Implementation.” The session was chaired by Zainab Zaidan, Head of the Planning Division at the Center, with contributions from Assistant Lecturers Noor Aref, Maha Amer, and Rusul Hamid. It was attended by the heads of the Center’s various divisions and units.
The workshop aimed to introduce the principles of strategic planning, enhance skills in setting measurable and actionable goals, and identify potential challenges in implementing strategic plans. It also emphasized the importance of delegating responsibilities, establishing timelines, and defining performance indicators to ensure that established objectives are met.
The workshop covered the concept of a strategic plan and its significance in shaping the future direction of institutions—including the definition of a vision, goals, and priorities. Furthermore, it addressed the requirements for implementing the 2025–2030 strategic plan, its alignment with available capabilities and resources, and the mechanisms for monitoring implementation and evaluating outcomes.
The workshop’s key takeaways included a deeper understanding among participants regarding the requirements for strategic plan implementation, the importance of linking strategic goals with operational programs, and the adoption of clear mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation—all of which contribute to improving institutional performance, increasing operational efficiency, and achieving targeted results. This workshop is part of the efforts of the Urban and Regional Planning Center aimed at fostering a culture of strategic planning, supporting institutional development, and enhancing the capacity to implement plans based on a scientific methodology—one rooted in prioritizing, measuring performance, and pursuing continuous improvement.
