The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a solidarity gathering, sponsored and attended by the Center’s Dean, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan. The event was organized to celebrate Iraqi National Sovereignty Day, express pride in the nation’s journey, and underscore the role of academic institutions in fostering values of belonging and citizenship. The gathering commenced with the playing of the Iraqi national anthem in the Center’s main courtyard, in an atmosphere that embodied the spirit of national unity and devotion to the homeland.
In his address, Dr. Alwan emphasized that national sovereignty serves as the cornerstone of independence and a source of national pride. He noted that safeguarding this sovereignty requires a concerted effort across all sectors—most notably the educational and academic sphere, which bears the responsibility of cultivating conscious minds and protecting Iraq’s intellectual and cultural identity.
