Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, Dean of the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, was honored in his office with a certificate of appreciation and recognition. The honor was presented by Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Quraishi, Director of the Center, accompanied by the Deputy Director and their delegation, following the successful conclusion of the 10th Scientific Conference on the Arba’een Pilgrimage. The conference was held in the holy city of Karbala from the 23rd to the 24th of Safar 1448 AH (August 7–8, 2026 AD) under the theme: “The Arba’een Pilgrimage… A Message of Civilizational Unity in the Age of Digital Transformation.”

Several members of the coordinating and scientific committees—including deans of various faculties—were also honored during the ceremony at the Center for Urban and Regional Planning. These included the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, the Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn al-Haytham), the Deputy Dean of the College of Sciences, and a number of professors who played an active role in the conference.

The delegation from Karbala also visited the deans of the College of Excellence, the College of Artificial Intelligence, and the College of Sciences for Women, as well as the Center for Educational and Psychological Studies at the university. They were honored for their academic presence, their commitment to fostering scientific cooperation between academic institutions and research centers, and their contributions to supporting scientific conferences that address intellectual and civilizational issues related to the blessed Arba’een Pilgrimage.

The delegation from Karbala emphasized the significant role played by the Center for Urban and Regional Planning—and the University of Baghdad as a whole—in the success of the two-day, 10th edition of the conference, noting that the university contributed the largest number of scientific research papers.
