The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled ( Challenges of Investment in the Housing Sector ), which was delivered by a lecturer at the center, Prof. Dr. Jamal Baqir Mutlaq, along with the senior chief statistician at the Construction Department of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Dr. Zainab Salman Shamma.
The workshop tackled the problem of housing, the need for housing, and the feasibility of housing projects, after selecting models of investment projects.
The challenges that the investor faces under the investment law and the instructions in force regarding the selection of residential sites were discussed, in addition to the technical and qualitative levels of investment projects.
Dr. Mutlaq touched on investment problems, which centered around the selection of investment companies, the mechanism of certification and approvals, as well as limitations on lands for investment projects, the lack of feasibility studies and censorship of implementation.
Dr. Mutlaq started the discussion about the importance of investment projects in light of the housing crises and high prices of housing units in the capital, Baghdad, which witnesses overpopulation and traffic jams in city centers.
It is noteworthy that the Dean of the Center, Prof. Dr. Karim Hassan Alwan, and his assistant, Prof. Dr. Moheeb Kamel Fleih, as well as the professors, staff, and some of the students at the center have attended the workshop.
