The Center of Urban and Regional for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a celebration on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day. The event was attended by the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, faculty members from the University of Baghdad and several colleges, as well as staff and affiliates of the Center.
The celebration aimed to honor the Arabic language and recall its grammatical and semantic value, which has shaped the highest expressions of thought and creativity, and which has been and continues to be a strong bridge connecting the past, present, and future.
The celebration included a dialogue session moderated by Professor Dr. Dilam Kadhim Suhail, a faculty member at the Center. This was followed by a lecture entitled “The Geometric Dimensions of the Arabic Language,” delivered by Professor Dr. Imad Younis Lafi from the College of Education for Women. In his lecture, Professor Lafi explored the relationship between architecture and the Arabic language, demonstrating how the Arabic language inherently possesses a structured architecture of its letters, meanings, connotations, and rhetoric, thus revealing its capacity to encompass all sciences.
Before the conclusion of the celebration, the Regional and Urban Planning Center renewed its pride in the Arabic language, the language of the Qur’an, and the language of literature and creativity in poetry and prose, stressing the need to preserve, nurture and promote its use in the fields of research and education, so that it remains alive and vibrant with giving across generations.
