The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad concluded the “Planning Studio” course exam for postgraduate students. With this, the Center bid farewell to the Master’s students of the 50th cohort and the Higher Diploma students of the 20th cohort, preparing them to resume their thesis and project writing journeys after selecting appropriate topics in coordination with their supervisors.
The Center’s students presented their projects and plans related to the development of several areas, based on scientific visions and concepts connected to planning and design. These projects addressed the crises of overpopulation and informal settlements, the increasing construction of residential complexes both within and outside the city, and traffic congestion, all within the framework of the study area’s plans, social environment, and other aspects that reflect the Center’s work as a theoretical solution to a contemporary problem.
The Center’s professors, distributed across four examination committees, discussed with the Master’s students the feasibility of their studies, the means to ensure their success if completed, and their implications amidst the noise of existing infrastructure and complex, diverse communities. It is noted that the students’ projects varied and were distributed among the alleys and shops of Baghdad, and others from different governorates. Their surveys were based on the outputs of their preparatory studies before starting to write their higher diploma projects and master’s theses.
