The University Follow-up Unit at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, in cooperation with the National Security Service, held a workshop entitled “The Effects of Drugs and Combating Their Trafficking” as part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week activities. The workshop, attended by faculty and staff of the center and a number of guests, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and their negative effects on individuals and society, discuss the role of academic institutions in addressing this phenomenon, and highlight the efforts of security agencies and educational institutions in combating drugs and raising awareness of their dangers.

The workshop covered the types of drugs, their harmful effects, methods of trafficking and use, as well as the legal texts pertaining to drugs in terms of use, trafficking, marketing, and transportation.

It is worth noting that the workshop organizers addressed ways to prevent addiction and the importance of enhancing community awareness on this issue. A discussion was also held to enrich the workshop’s outcomes, which emphasized the need for concerted efforts between government agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations to combat drug abuse, educate young people, and raise awareness among them to protect them from this scourge.

This workshop aims to promote a healthy, risk-free academic environment, fulfilling one of the Sustainable Development Goals of ensuring a healthy life and enhancing the well-being of society.
