The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held the Scientific Planning Competition Festival for Master’s students for the academic year 2024-2025, in the presence of the Director General of the Department of Regional and Local Development at the Ministry of Planning, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mohsen Al-Sayed, along with the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Amir Faisal Abdul Amir and a group of academic guests from inside and outside the university.
The festival aimed to highlight the planning vision of the master’s students at the center in terms of design and construction, taking into account the geographical location and environment, as well as calculating green areas with the provision of various social services and activities targeting different groups based on community participation in the design of residential areas, provided that the design includes residential neighborhoods, hospitals, schools and mosques in conjunction with the adoption of horizontal and vertical housing with an underground parking garage.
The Assistant President of the University, Dr. Abdul Amir, confirmed during the opening of the festival that the center’s students have a beautiful complementary urban vision that plays an effective role as it starts from thoughtful advance planning and ends with an urban masterpiece that takes into account the concepts of sustainable cities.
For his part, the Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Al-Sayed, praised the practical role of the students of the Urban Planning Center, as it is one of the scientific outputs of the center, and reflects the knowledge of its professors since its establishment in 1971.
The competition committee discussed the designs submitted in the competition, and three projects were selected to win the first three places, while the other design projects won as model projects bearing the character of modernity and unique design.
