The professor at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Firas Thamer, was honored with the University of Baghdad Excellence Award during a central ceremony held at the College of Medicine, along with a group of lecturers who achieved distinguished scientific achievements by publishing original research in scientific journals classified within the (Scopus Q1) containers, which is one of the scientific containers with a global classification.
Dr. Thamer stressed that publishing solid scientific research supports the educational process and reflects the outputs of our mother university to keep pace with the world and develop its cognitive structure and lead to building a new generation armed with modern sciences and a unique competitor to its peers.

For his part, the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, praised these important scientific achievements, stressing that this ceremony reflects the continuous efforts made by the university in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of education, pointing out that this success is the result of the combined efforts of the academic and administrative staff, who worked hard to achieve this qualitative leap in international classifications.
It is noteworthy that the published research has established the University of Baghdad’s ranking as the first locally and the twentieth Arab in the Times classification, thus achieving the highest ranking in the history of Iraqi universities, in addition to its classification within the list of (5%) among the most important Arab universities. It is noteworthy that the Times classification is based on multiple criteria including the quality of scientific research, the impact of citations, the educational environment, and international cooperation, which makes achieving an advanced rank in it a great achievement that reflects the university’s commitment to international standards in higher education.
