Development and Spatial Justice for Regional Development in Wasit
The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled (Development and Spatial Justice for the Regional Development Program in Wasit Governorate), by the student Muntadhar Ali Huwaidi, and supervised by Professor Dr. Muhib Kamel Falih. The thesis aimed to evaluate the regional development program in Wasit Governorate for the period from 2011-2022 by identifying the development situation in the administrative units of Wasit with proposed development standards by showing the disparity in the level of services for those areas with an assessment of the level of spatial justice.
It was found that there is a large disparity in the level of development between the administrative units, and the thesis proposed a new allocation system that takes into account the population size and the specific development needs of each administrative unit to make regional development more balanced.
The researcher recommended the importance of enhancing allocation methodologies by adopting strategic development approaches by local administrations that take into account the deficit rates in service provision at the service sector level, as well as the spatial level, in addition to the population factor, area and available capabilities to reduce the spatial disparities and benefit from the potential of those areas.
