The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad received a delegation from the Supreme Council for Coordination between the Governorates of the Council of Ministers. They were received by the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, and his assistant for scientific affairs, Professor Dr. Mohib Kamel, as well as members of the Planning Consultancy Bureau at the Center. The visit aimed to Benefiting from the Center’s scientific and practical expertise and consultations in choosing the spatial signature for establishing new cities in a number of Iraqi governorates with population pressure concentrated in the city center.

The Center presented a roadmap and modern designs to create model cities whose standards are based on sustainability in all its forms, and the Authority’s delegation will submit them to the Council of Ministers for a decision. It is noteworthy that the Urban and Regional Planning Center has adopted the designs of the current tourist city of Ur, in addition to the design of the riverfront on the right side of the city of Mosul.

The two parties discussed activating an academic cooperation mechanism regarding launching a training course for the environmental simulation program, which will benefit professors and students of some engineering specializations with regard to their specific specialization.
