The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled (Economizing Land Use and Adequate Housing Type in the Residential Complexes) by the student Aws Qahtan Imran, and supervised by Professor Dr. Jamal Baqir Mutlak.
The thesis aimed to develop multiple scenarios for the available land that ensure economy of the land and meets the population’s needs for different types of housing in accordance with approved housing standards using the functional analytical approach using 3 axes, which are land use ratios, residential and housing density, and building density.
Scenarios were developed for one of the residential complexes, which is Al-Hilla/2 complex in the city of Babylon, through a Mazaifi program that helps the planner know the areas and types of housing with the required standards to contribute to meeting the needs of the population for various types of housing that are compatible with what is specified in the urban housing standards and choose the scenario that suits. General trends.
The functional program concluded, among the results of the thesis, that a much larger number of housing could be extracted and a greater opportunity to benefit from the available land area if the standards were used to build housing with diverse and economic models. Ratios could be adopted that are consistent with family sizes to give us double the applicable number according to the reality of the situation in the complex under study.
