The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hassan Attia Al-Zughaibi—accompanied by his Assistant for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah—inaugurated the newly renovated reception area of the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, as well as the refurbished postgraduate student halls. They were welcomed by the Center’s Dean, Prof. Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, along with the academic, administrative, and technical staff. During his tour, Al-Zughaibi commended the quality of the renovation work and the attention to detail, praising the Center’s history and its significant scholarly and intellectual impact at both local and Arab regional levels.
The University President and his assistant also viewed the “Baghdad Panorama,” a planning achievement that encapsulates the city’s history from its inception in the Abbasid era to the present day. The panorama illustrates the political, economic, cultural, and literary stages the city has traversed, as well as the elegiac verses composed about it by both Abbasid and contemporary poets.
Al-Zughaibi concluded his visit by inspecting the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) laboratory, where he reviewed its operations—which are integral to the work of urban planners and have practical, real-world applications.
This visit is part of a series of visits by the University of Baghdad’s leadership to the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies. The aim is to review the Center’s renewed scientific vision and academic achievements—particularly its integration of sustainability concepts into scientific, theoretical, and applied studies—and to assess the strength of its ties with government and private institutions, given its role as an active partner in project planning.
