Dr. Ammar Khalil, an assistant professor at the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, participated as a member of the proceedings of the Fifth International Scientific Conference on Geomatics Technologies, organized by the National Center for Spatial Data Management, affiliated with the National Security Advisory, under the title “Investing in Population Census Results for Sustainable Development in Iraq.” Dr. Khalil, a member of the preparatory committee and rapporteur for the second day of the conference, indicated that the session discussed ways to utilize the outputs of the 2025 General Population and Housing Census to support sustainable development in Iraq. He emphasized the importance of population census results in enhancing sustainable development indicators in Iraq, noting that the recommendations focused on the necessity of employing modern population data in urban planning and housing policies. This, he explained, contributes to achieving sustainable development in Iraq and is considered an important part of the recommendations of the Fifth International Conference on Geomatics Technologies and Smart Cities.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Ammar Khalil evaluated one of the research papers presented at the conference. He also accompanied the participating Arab and foreign delegations on a visit to the holy city of Karbala, hosted by the Holy Abbasid Shrine.
