The Dean, Rapporteur at a Conference on Geospatial Technologies
Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, Dean of the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies, participated as rapporteur in the first workshop, titled “Global Developments in Geomatics Technologies and Their Applications,” at the Fifth International Conference on Geomatics Technologies and Smart Cities. The conference was chaired by Professor Dr. Munir Hamid Al-Saadi, President of Al-Naji University, and organized by the National Data Management Center at the National Security Advisory. Alwan confirmed that the first workshop of the conference included several research papers discussing the achievements of ministries in a vertical residential complex, the use of artificial neural network analysis to estimate rainfall, and the application of geospatial technology in the postal addressing system for Iraq. A working paper also discussed innovative geomatics technologies in municipal work and urban planning.
The first workshop also addressed data governance in smart city management and the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) in flood risk analysis and management in Tamanrasset, Algeria. It is worth mentioning that the conference, with its workshops spread over its three days, was attended by various relevant ministries, as well as the participation of Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Algeria, in addition to Britain and China, as all the conference activities were held at the Al-Rasheed Hotel in the capital, Baghdad.
