The Urban and Regional Planning Center for Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held an electronic discussion seminar entitled (walkable city – steps to make the city more walkable) as part of the center’s scientific activities plan for the year 2022, which was organized by the center’s instructor, Dr. Ihsan Sabah Hadi.

The lecturer dealt with the subject of walkability and walkable cities in terms of definition and benefits and their relationship with various scientific disciplines such as planning, urban design, transportation, medicine, sociology, and others, with a diagnosis of an important question: why our cities do not encourage walking

The discussion panel also raised the possibility of walkability in the residential neighborhood and the city, focusing on urban planning indicators that are included in measuring walkability.

The workshop presented planning steps to achieve the walkable city, through which it is possible to achieve and encourage walking in the city in a useful, safe and comfortable manner, leading to the achievement of the sustainable city.
