National Tree Planting Day activities were launched at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, under the supervision of the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, and with the participation of faculty, staff, and students. The tree-planting activities included the planting of approximately 50 trees and perennial flowers in the center’s gardens, supervised by the Center’s Agricultural Unit and in coordination with the Agricultural Division of the Diwan Affairs Department, which selected the desired varieties.
The Dean of the Center emphasized that this event is of great importance for increasing green spaces at the university, in addition to introducing the correct methods for planting trees and their sustainability, which are among the goals of sustainable development in advancing climate action. It is worth noting that this event was launched based on an initiative by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to include all institutions in March of each year, which coincides with the spring holidays.
