Urban Planning Center Explores Urban Land for Sustainable Development
The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (The Suitability of Urban Land to Achieve Sustainable Development – Case Study (Al-Khalidiya City)) by the student Maha Badr Mansour, and supervised by the experienced professor Dr. Louay Taha Al-Mulla Hawish.
The thesis aimed to know the importance of the planning considerations adopted for their use in the spatial suitability of urban land and in signing housing projects in a way that ensures sustainable development, and enhances it while preserving the social, economic and urban characteristics in the urban area (Al-Khalidiya). The student confirmed in her thesis that most of the basic plans for cities do not give spatial importance to urban land when choosing or signing the appropriate urban activity, as it was established without a basic plan.
The thesis reached a set of conclusions that contribute to sustainable development with indicators of good evaluation of urban lands, as it provides alternatives to issues related to land such as practicing land management, providing green spaces, land use patterns and urban expansion.
