The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled (Ecosystems’ Resilience to Disasters: Najaf Sea as a Case Study) by researcher Nabaa Abd Al-Hadi Abd, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Areej Khairy Al-Rawi.
The researcher dealt with the problem of the lack of knowledge about the importance of enhancing resilience in ecosystems to face disasters, which contributed to increasing the exposure of the environment and individuals to the risks of these disasters.
The thesis aimed to come up with an integrated theoretical and practical framework that enhances the importance of the concept of environmental resilience in achieving the response of ecosystems to disasters.
The thesis also concluded that the ecosystem is linked to the social system in a complex way, affecting and being affected by it, and that the two systems are of equal importance and work as an interdependent and joint system, and that climate changes increase the severity of climate-related disasters and thus the deterioration of the ecosystem.
