The Studies and Planning Division at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Combating the Phenomenon of Suicide and Addressing Psychological Aspects.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Haider Adnan, Head of the Legal Division at the Center, and attended by a number of the Center’s faculty and staff.
The workshop aimed to clarify the nature of suicide and the position of Iraqi law regarding it, as well as its causes and contributing factors.
Adnan discussed the details of the causes and contributing factors of suicide, focusing on psychological and health aspects, in addition to the Iraqi legislator’s stance on suicide and its encouragement.
The workshop also addressed the types of suicide, such as direct and indirect suicide, as well as the harms and effects of suicide on the family and society, and ultimately, ways to reduce this phenomenon.
The workshop recommended the necessity of activating the role of the individual and society, each according to their specialization, in spreading a culture of love for life and rejecting all behaviors that lead to suicide, in addition to the position of Iraqi law and Islamic Sharia on this phenomenon.
