Professor Arej Khairy Al-Rawi, a lecturer at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, participated in the meeting of the committee preparing a unified housing policy for sustainable city management. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Construction and Housing. Committee members from the ministry, as well as members from the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Environment, were also present, along with a committee from the Council of Ministers.

Al-Rawi emphasized that the meeting aimed to provide comprehensive housing services, combining the provision of adequate and affordable housing with environmentally friendly urban planning. This would ensure a comprehensive and safe residential environment for all, especially in light of rapid urban expansion and the challenges facing cities. The meeting also aimed to adopt a sustainable city management policy to achieve the principles of sustainable development in all aspects of urban life by leveraging technology (such as information and communications technologies and digital solutions) to enhance the efficiency of urban services, improve quality of life, and ensure the sustainability of environmental, economic, and social resources for current and future generations.

It is noteworthy that the committee studied the details of sustainable city management to achieve an integration of sustainability and management practices to create a balanced business model that benefits current and future generations, with the goal of achieving the sustainable city, the eco-city, or the green city, which reflects the model of a modern city that takes into account social, economic, and environmental impacts, providing a flexible home for current residents.
