The Urban and Regional Planning Center for post Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a virtual scientific workshop entitled (The Relationship between the Environment and Urban Planning in the Age of Epidemics) under the supervision of the Dean of the Center, Prof. Dr. Karim Hassan Alwan.
The workshop, which was organized by Assistant Professor Dr. Areej Al-Rawi, aimed to study epidemics and their risks on the city, and thus their impact on human health and behavior, in addition to investigating the type of impact on the environment and humans, and its tangible impact on the economy and urbanization.
In the workshop, a lecture entitled (Environment and Urban Planning in the Age of Epidemics and Disasters) was delivered by the researcher at the Higher Institute of Engineering from the Arab Republic of Egypt, Assistant Professor Dr. On modern planning methods for cities and gatherings, and then addressing solutions in Arab and international countries, such as Egypt and the Gulf, Singapore, China and England.
The workshop reached some recommendations that emphasized the existence of a relationship between pollution and the increase in epidemics, and that the cities associated with the economy are the most affected by infection as a result of the high rates of overcrowding within closed spaces and the lack of open areas.. The workshop also recommended the importance of green spaces and spaces within cities after providing These cities with modern technology to practice their activities and perform their duties, and this is what is needed in the importance of adopting smart and green sustainable cities for a clean healthy environment.
