Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Hashim Sahen, a lecturer at the Center for Urban Planning and Regional Studies at the University of Baghdad, participated in the activities of the 11th Scientific and International Conference of the Iraqi House of Wisdom entitled (Migration, Asylum and Humanitarian Challenges between International Responsibility and National Obligations), under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and in the presence of a number of undersecretaries of the relevant ministries and their advisors, in addition to the participation of the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Baha Ibrahim Insaf, and a group of academics and guests.
Dr. Sahen stated that his participation in the conference was represented in chairing the session’s rapporteur, while his primary role was in organizing the conference through guidance, counseling and exchanging views. Sahen indicated that the goal of the conference is to study the impact of external migration on labor employment policies in a number of countries, in addition to identifying the repercussions of migration and asylum and studying human rights and the rights of illegal immigrants in some Arab countries, while shedding light on the problem of asylum, its motives and its global security implications. It is noteworthy that the conference continued for two consecutive days and included several sessions in cooperation with the International Labor Organization and 20 international experts to promote decent work and protect the rights of migrant workers.
