Media Unit at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized an educational workshop entitled (Registration and Possession of Weapons for Citizens) in cooperation with the Weapons Control and Regulation Division at the Ministry of Interior Agency for Police Affairs, delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Salam Sadiq Magtouf, from the Rusafa Police Command.

The workshop aimed to familiarize the attendees with the mechanism for registering light weapons as possession and carrying and the categories covered by it, such as doctors, pharmacists, university professors, journalists and others who are at the level of department director or higher. Holders of these job grades can also purchase weapons from the Military Industrialization Authority based on official correspondence supporting the status and level of the person who wants to purchase that weapon manufactured according to international specifications by professional local hands.

Magtouf confirmed that it has become possible to apply for weapons registration through the electronic Ur platform to register for a license to possess and carry a light weapon, or to register a rifle as a weapon at home through the weapons registration service through the same platform.

Major Magtouf pointed out that registering weapons with security institutions comes within the framework of restricting weapons to the state, which provides legal protection for its holder and eliminates accountability in the event of an accident after examining and analyzing the bullets and their residues at the crime scene.

This workshop comes within the framework of the openness of government and private institutions to the mother university to exchange experiences and hone everyone’s cognitive, functional, social and other skills.
