Increasing the number and quality of green spaces allows mitigation of short-term climate pollutants that have severe effects on global warming. Fountains, ponds, lakes and gardens built on the roofs of urban buildings allow for moderating extreme temperatures and reducing the effect of urban heat islands, and lead to energy savings and improving the quality of climate in cities.
Therefore, the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies has attached great importance to gardens through continuous afforestation campaigns and volunteer work to clean and plant gardens and periodic cleaning work to mow grass and get rid of weeds. It has also sought to increase green spaces by planting perennial trees that are suitable for Iraq’s hot climate and contribute to moderating the temperature and increasing the percentage of oxygen.
