The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled ( Holy Cities Centers And Ways Develop Are Friendly To The Old People ) by the researcher Tuqa Ahmed Musa, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Areej Khairy Othman.
The study aimed to highlight the deficiency of knowledge of the planning dimension in the centers of holy cities to achieve a suitable environment for the elderly, which led to the emergence of some problems facing the elderly in various urban areas, as a person’s ability to age well and beneficially depends on the relationship between their physical and spiritual abilities and the barriers in their urban environment.
The study dealt with the history of Islamic and holy cities and their urban development. The researcher prepared detailed charts for the study area according to the field survey, and ended the study with a number of conclusions, centered on the need to reach a suitable model for the centers of holy cities for old age categories, consisting of the axes of transportation, social integration, safety, and security.
After extensive discussion of the thesis, the committee approved granting her a master’s degree, taking into account the observations submitted by the committee members.
