Master Thesis on the Location of Anbar International Airport
The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the postgraduate diploma project titled “Evaluation of the Site of Anbar International Airport,” presented by student Khalil Ibrahim Obaid and supervised by lecturer Dr. Adel Hassan Jassim. The project aimed to evaluate the site of Anbar International Airport, after the first phase of its implementation in the governorate began, and to demonstrate its suitability as the ideal and preferred location for establishing an airport from among two proposed sites. The preferred alternative was chosen.
The project also examined the factors influencing the selection of the optimal location for airport construction, including the primary factors and secondary indicators, and identified the factors influencing the process of selecting the best site. The student adopted in his project indicators and standards approved by relevant international organizations and bodies in selecting the best and most optimal location for establishing a civil airport. These factors may change, affecting the choice of location according to the characteristics of the region, as they are affected by planning, technical, natural, social, service, environmental and other factors. The project recommendations focused on the fact that planning for selecting the location of airports (Anbar Airport as a model) should be the responsibility of a team of specialists in the fields of planning, sociology, economics and engineering, in addition to technical and technological specializations in the field of aviation. The relevant government authorities should work to take measures that enhance the development and expansion of specialized studies in this field and provide the governorate and the country with such studies and take into consideration the necessary planning and technical solutions that achieve sustainable compatibility between the airport and the surrounding environment, after exploiting the prohibited area surrounding Anbar Airport by creating suitable green areas, with the possibility of making future modifications to expand the airport and benefit from land uses in terms of developing and expanding them as needed.
