The Assistant Dean of the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Muhib Kamil Falih, gave an introductory lecture on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to a research team from the Center for Population and Demographic Studies, as part of a scientific visit to the center, under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Analytical Techniques at the center, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashir Faisal Muhammad.
The lecture dealt with methods of using maps and determining the geographical and environmental work requirements in the study area, after determining the area, number of housing units and their occupants and the required infrastructure, in addition to transportation methods and means, provided that the concepts of sustainability are relied upon before starting urban planning for the city’s borders. It is noteworthy that the visit came to view the GIS laboratory and the courses offered by the center, as well as ways of cooperation with the center regarding writing research, using technologies, providing scientific consultations to researchers, and developing joint work between the two centers.
