The library was established in 1971 and includes a books section, periodicals, an electronic library, government publications, Arabic and foreign books and the latest publications for the year 2009. Library patrons are from various ministries and universities. There are about 21 magazine titles in Arabic and foreign languages. Borrowers include colleges of the University of Baghdad, various universities in the country, private colleges, ministries and other official departments such as the Baghdad Municipality. The library staff follows up on book fairs where sources are collected through fairs in order to add sources on an ongoing basis.

The specifications of the library’s organizational structure include that it is headed by an employee holding a relevant university degree who is responsible for supervising the library, organizing it and scientific sources, receiving books and periodicals received by the library from various parties, preserving books and supplies in the library, and making an annual inventory of the library’s contents from all scientific sources and any other matters related to the library’s work and duties.

The library includes the following units:

First: Periodicals Unit
It consists of an employee holding a relevant university degree who is responsible for following up on scientific periodicals with various parties and carrying out the work of tabulating, indexing, classifying and registering them.
Second: Borrowing Unit
It consists of an employee with a university degree who is responsible for organizing and following up on borrowing books from the library and preparing office IDs for teachers and students.
Third: Automated Systems Unit
It consists of an employee with a university degree who is responsible for organizing books on the computer and preparing them for teachers and students when needed.
