The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad participated in the (Future Sustainability Week) festival, sponsored by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi. The festival began on Saturday, February 17, 2024, for a period of 6 days. It aimed to highlight the goals of sustainable development and renew its principles through areas of scientific research in universities and society, as well as accelerating the pace of sustainable development and advancing economic, social, environmental, health and green education development in a way that serves society.
The participation of the Urban and Regional Planning Center on the first day of the festival was represented by presenting its scientific products embodied in the form of engineering designs for the design of residential neighborhoods within the capital, Baghdad (Al-Harithiya – Al-Kindi Street) and other designs in the governorates (Kufa and Mosul), as well as panoramic pictures and an introductory guide and brochures about the center and its achievements, which have become the focus of everyone’s attention and admiration.
The activities of the first day included the opening with a student march and the announcement of sustainable development goals, after which the opening ceremony began with speeches by the representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and a speech by the Governor of Babylon, along with the president of its university, in addition to the dialogue session moderated by the Romanian ambassador to Iraq, the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and others. The Assistant President of the University of Baghdad for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, was honored.
It is noteworthy that the Center of Urban Planning will continue its participation in the festival, which came under the slogan (Climate Change and the Future of Generations), through dialogue sessions for the Center’s professors in accordance with the festival’s programs, which will extend until Thursday, February 22nd, 2024.
It is noteworthy that the number of exhibitions participating in the Future Sustainability Week Festival will reach 200, with the participation of more than 40 local, Arab and foreign universities, as well as 11 ministries and 40 private sector companies. The festival will also include 100 patents and innovations, in addition to the establishment of 50 popular markets and 20 art exhibitions in conjunction with 30 pioneering initiatives.
