The Advisor to the Prime Minister, Engineer Muhammad Sahib Al-Daraji, launched the implementation of the riverfront project in Old Mosul in the city’s right-hand side. It is considered the first of its kind in Iraq, after the planning consultancy bureau at the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad completed all its urban designs.
The management of the Center’s planning consultancy bureau council confirmed that the project will organize and rehabilitate the riverfront confined between the Old and Fifth Bridges on the right coast side, and 273 houses will be rehabilitated according to a Mosul heritage character, forming residential areas, cafes, motels, and tourist facilities, in addition to constructing walkways, terraces, green spaces, and a marina for boats, in addition to commercial, historical and folkloric craft activities that reflect the ancient history of Mosul.
It is noteworthy that the project implementation work was launched in the presence of the human rights governor of Nineveh, Abdul Qadir Al-Dakhil, the director of the Mosul Municipality, Engineer Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, the director of roads and bridges, Engineer Radwan Al-Shahwani, the executive director of Mosul Reconstruction, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Al-Saydali, and a number of officials in the governorate.
