The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad participated in the tenth and second international scientific conference of the House of Wisdom, entitled (Human Security and Sustainable Development in Iraq and the Arab World… Reality, Challenges, and Ways of Confrontation). The conference aimed to shed light on the reality of sustainable development in Iraq and the Arab world through indicators and statistics and learning about human security challenges to the individual and society, and human rights and their relationship to sustainable development.
The conference began on its first day and consisted of 9 sessions. The third scientific session was chaired by the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, and climate change and its impact on Iraq were highlighted, in addition to taking into account sustainable development and its relationship to the development of technology. The topics of communication and media technology were also discussed.
As for the fifth scientific session, its teaching session at the Urban Planning Center was Dr. Abbas Hashem Sahn, in which topics related to the code of professional conduct and the role of public relations in spreading the culture of sustainable development were discussed, in addition to the role of academic and cultural elites in confronting terrorism and spreading the concepts of civil peace, and papers research that shed light on women’s political empowerment and active citizenship, as well as the challenges of social security and confronting them from a geographical perspective.
It is noteworthy that the conference was attended by researchers from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, the Emirates, and the Sultanate of Oman, and others from Somalia, Egypt, and Algeria, along with Iraqi and academic elites, intellectuals, and representatives of a number of ministries participated in supplementing the session with their research papers and knowledge dissertations. It is worth noting that the Department of Social Studies at Bit Al-Hekma sponsored the holding of the conference for two days, in coordination with the International Labor Organization and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, with the participation of the International Union of Universities, and a number of Iraqi and Arab universities and research centers.
