The Dean of the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, chaired the discussion of a master’s thesis at the College of Urban Planning at the University of Kufa, entitled (Renewable energy is a vision in building a new concept of the sustainable city in Iraq – the city of Samawah, a case study) by the student Haider Lafta Madloul.
Alwan discussed the results of the thesis, which centered on renewable energy investments in Samawah, which will change the features of the urban reality of the sustainable city, by creating infrastructure and developing human resources based on local capabilities and resources.
The dean of the Center confirmed, after discussing the student with the committee, that the study concluded that renewable energy has become a sustainable and environmental alternative to meet the city’s energy needs, after refraining from adopting fossil fuels and carbon emissions, because renewable energy will enhance economic sustainability and provide new job opportunities, as long as it is enjoyed. Iraq has rich natural resources such as sun and wind, which will achieve a major shift towards sustainable renewable energy.
