The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a seminar with master’s students about publishing in international journals and peer-reviewed local journals. The session, which was chaired by the Dean of the Center, Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Alwan, dealt with introducing postgraduate students to the types of publishing for scientific research that must be completed, and then introducing them to the basics required to complete any authentic scientific research and how to write it, as well as selecting sources in accordance with the authentic academic standards based on the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Presidency of the University of Baghdad.

Dr. Abdel Wahab Ahmed, lecturer at the Center and member of the editorial board of Journal of Planner and Development, reviewed a published research by the dean of the Center in Scopus database, and the completed examples of published research, explaining the procedures of international publishing, how to choose authentic journals, and the process of distinguishing between them and between predatory or commercial journals. He also reviewed some local peer-reviewed journals issued by one of the formations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, provided that they have an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), in addition to a deposit number from the National Library and Archives and the Central Library, and are issued periodically and regularly.

It is noteworthy that this seminar was held based on ministerial and university instructions regarding scientific research, developing the educational level, improving the scientific research of postgraduate students at the center, and guiding them to publish in reputable international journals.
