The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled (The future urban townscape of the Iraqi city – Analytical study of the latent urban systems) by the student Marwa Alaa Abdul Amir, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Amir Shaker Khudair.
The thesis discussed the deteriorating image of the urban landscape due to uncontrolled urban addition, as well as unawareness in the relationship between the latent system and urban addition and its impact on the future urban landscape of the city.
In her thesis, the student aimed to achieve the response of the urban context to the act of urban addition and to analyze the entire systems of the added building and the context responding to it, as well as to predict the future urban landscape when a distinct building is added to an urban context.
The thesis recommended the need to benefit from global experiences in dealing with urban contexts and the extent of their response to adding a building or group of buildings, thus achieving integration at the level of the urban landscape, in addition to the importance of studying the important symbols and signs in the city of Baghdad and the extent of their impact on reality.
