The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled (The role of socio-cultural variables in shaping the urban landscape of the contemporary Iraqi city) by researcher Zahraa Khaled Nassif, and under the supervision of Dr. Abbas Hashim Sahn.
The thesis aimed to improve the state of the urban landscape of the Iraqi city and to achieve the concept of the quality of urban social life by studying and defining the applied aspects of the socio-cultural variables, identifying the aspects with the greatest impact, and studying the factors, requirements, methods and techniques that formed these variables.
The researcher concluded that the socio-cultural variables play a major, prominent and important role in shaping the urban landscape of the Iraqi city in terms of the impact of these concepts on the behavior and culture of the individual, and as a result the reflection of this influence on the materialistic aspect of their culture, which is represented in the ways of living (architecture).
