The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled (Effect of Household Size on Housing Function) by the researcher Shahd Issam Othman, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jamal Baqir Mutlaq.
The study aimed to determine the housing needs based on the number of families according to their size, which lead to identifying the features of the housing development of urban areas and the needs of families of housing and then calculating the net residential area. Dujail district was chosen to realize the objective of the study by hypothesizing that the estimation of the types of the required households is based on the housing need according to the size and life cycle of families.
The thesis concluded with a set of conclusions and recommendations in the context of linking the concept of family size and life cycle, and housing demand. This model will satisfactorily redevelop the housing market in a way that it can potentially be used as a tool for predicting the future of demand in the urban housing market.
