The Dean of the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Karim Hassan Alwan, attended the scientific symposium entitled “Human Development in Iraq: Between Statistical Measurement and Intellectual Perspective,” held at the College of Excellence. The symposium was also attended by the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, the advisor to the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Mahdi Mohsen Al-Alaq, and a number of academics.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Dr. Alwan emphasized that the symposium addressed the issue of human development in Iraq, highlighting the gap between statistical indicators issued by international and local organizations and the intellectual perspective that characterizes the reality of the Iraqi people. The research papers presented discussed topics related to human development levels in Iraq, national and international reports on the subject, and development indicators within the context of the repercussions of current crises.<\/span><\/h4>\n

During the seminar, the lecturers pointed to the importance of reformulating educational curricula to promote critical thinking and creativity, and the necessity of cultural sustainability to link technological development with the Iraqi cultural identity, as well as empowering competencies to create an intellectual environment that motivates young people to innovate locally.<\/span><\/h4>\n
