The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized its 50th annual Master’s Planning Competition for the 2025-2026 academic year. The event was attended by the University’s Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, as well as the Director General of the Department of Regional and Local Development at the Ministry of Planning, Professor Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Al-Sayyid, and a number of other distinguished guests from the Baghdad Municipality and academics from within and outside the university.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The competition aimed to showcase the planning vision of the Center’s Master’s students in terms of design and construction, taking into account geographical location and the environment. It also emphasized the importance of green spaces and the provision of various social services and activities targeting diverse groups, relying on community participation in the design of residential areas. The designs were to include residential neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and mosques, utilizing both horizontal and vertical housing, along with underground parking.<\/span><\/h4>\n

During his attendance at the competition, the University of Baghdad’s Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Abdullah, affirmed that the Center’s students possess a beautiful and complementary urban vision that plays a vital role, as it stems from meticulous planning and culminates in an architectural masterpiece that embodies the principles of sustainable cities. The competition committee discussed the nine designs submitted to the competition, and three projects were selected as the winners of the top three places, while the other design projects were recognized as exemplary projects that embody modernity and unique design.<\/span><\/h4>\n
