The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Green Areas and Their Impact on the Carbon Footprint in Kut City” by student Maitham Alwan, supervised by Professor Nada Khalifa.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis aimed to analyze and demonstrate the role of green areas in the environmental sphere, particularly in reducing the carbon footprint in Kut City, by assessing the relationship between vegetation cover and greenhouse gas emissions resulting from urban activities.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The student demonstrated in his study results that areas with dense vegetation cover effectively contribute to carbon absorption, and that the improvement in NDVI and GPP indicators over the past two decades has positively impacted the efficiency of environmental absorption despite the increasing pressure from urban growth.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis recommended the need to enhance environmental urban planning by expanding green areas and improving their management, integrating environmental governance mechanisms and community participation to ensure the sustainability of the positive impact of these spaces, and striving to adopt plant carbon indicators within local planning policies while activating carbon offset programs to enhance climate balance within the city.<\/span><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
