The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Public Transport-Oriented Development Strategy in Hilla City Center” by student Samia Maitham Jaafar, supervised by Professor Muhib Kamil Falih.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis aimed to study the reduction of transportation problems, such as congestion and the associated pollution and accidents in Hilla, assuming that a public transport-oriented development strategy would mitigate these problems in the city.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis relied on two approaches: the descriptive approach, which included a theoretical aspect, focusing on reviewing and studying Arab and foreign academic books, reports, and research in the field of public transport-oriented development strategies. The analytical approach defined the study area, analyzed the current state of the transportation and traffic network, and identified its potential and constraints using a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In her thesis, the student recommended the development of various transportation networks to facilitate multi-modal transportation, the rehabilitation of Hillah’s main streets after expanding the public transportation network to cover underserved areas, and the application of fees and taxes on the use of private cars to encourage the use of public transportation and sustainable mobility. She also recommended strengthening partnerships, in conjunction with enhancing public-private partnerships to finance and implement projects.<\/span><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
