Assistant lecturer Fatima Khalil Ibrahim, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, participated in a symposium organized by the Women’s Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad Presidency entitled “Developing Women’s Capacities for Environmental Protection.” The symposium was held in collaboration with several research institutes and centers, and included the participation of a number of university faculty members. Khalil participated with a paper titled “The Role of the Media in Confronting Climate Change.” <\/span><\/h4>\n

She highlighted the pivotal role of the media in raising awareness of climate change issues and enhancing awareness among members of society. She emphasized the media’s role as a link between information, studies, and scientific facts related to climate change, on the one hand, and institutions and individuals, on the other. Environmental media is a concept that has emerged in recent years with the growing public interest in ways to confront climate change factors, and the multiplication of efforts and initiatives in this regard, coinciding with global trends toward environmental conservation to achieve sustainability of all kinds. This is especially true now that the media has begun to contribute to shaping global public environmental awareness and encouraging official authorities to take measures to protect the environment and confront climate change by disseminating information about the challenges and potential impacts of climate change. This increases public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation and motivates individuals to take unilateral action, sometimes to mitigate environmental impacts.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The symposium also addressed environmental security and its impact on women’s health and productivity in a sustainable environment after enhancing their capabilities, which requires exceptional environmental education. Before the conclusion, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the symposium participants in recognition of their scientific efforts.<\/span><\/h4>\n
