The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (Sustainable integration between the mother city and new cities – a case study of the new Mutanabbi City in Wasit Governorate) by the student Amina Taha Muhammad, and supervised by Professor Dr. Nadia Khalifa Muhammad Ali. The thesis aimed to study the indicators and standards of sustainability and replicate their suitability with the planning of new cities and the extent of their success in achieving integration between the new cities and the mother city, in addition to identifying the obstacles to the success of the experience of new cities and their integration with the mother city.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The planning of new cities (the new Mutanabbi City in Wasit Governorate) was analyzed and studied, and its designs were prepared by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities to meet the increasing housing need in all Iraqi governorates and make them according to the standards of sustainable communities that integrate with the sustainability of the existing mother governorates to produce residential neighborhoods that serve their residents for a longer period.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis recommended the need to pay attention to the size and area of \u200b\u200bthe selected site to be sufficient to contain all the city’s service facilities, with priority given to the distance criterion and careful study of the expected relationship between the two cities, in addition to the need to improve the mechanism followed to determine the locations of new cities by introducing additional criteria to ensure optimal interaction and better integration with existing cities, and taking into account the site’s proximity to natural resources such as water, electricity and raw materials after working to connect the city to a specific external transportation network such as main roads, railways and airports, while activating public transportation and linking with nearby urban centers.<\/span><\/h4>\n
